Road to Kyoto by Masaki Dekune

Dearest Joobee

I remember well when you and Davey once came to visit us in Japan with Will and Yo.
We decided to go to Kyoto. Davey wanted to try the bullet train, so Davey and Will headed to Kyoto on the bullet train, while you came with us in our car.
You sat on the passenger’s seat next to me with Sei and Yo in the back seat, and we set off for a long road trip.

On the way, I started humming some old jazz numbers. You joined in and we sang all sorts of English songs together.
That really melted the ice and we had a truly entertaining time despite the language barrier.

Recently, I have recorded some 18 Japanese children’s folk songs on to CD so that Yo and Will’s children can listen to them.
I wanted to send you one too, but I am so sorry that I couldn’t send it in time.

I hope our grandchildren will listen to my songs, then you can also enjoy them in heaven together.

Rest in peace with your loving Davey. Sei and I will follow you some day. Until then, farewell….
